“Buddha Darya & Satluj Cry for Justice – Punjab’s Water Emergency”

The PAC–Public Action Committee (Regd.) formally submitted its comprehensive Environmental White Paper to key constitutional authorities and policymakers across India, highlighting one of North India’s most critical environmental and public health crises.

To raise urgent national attention towards:

  • Severe pollution of Buddha Darya
  • Contamination of River Satluj
  • Groundwater crisis across Punjab and downstream regions of Rajasthan
  • Public health risks affecting lakhs of citizens

The report titled “Buddha Darya & Satluj Cry for Justice – Punjab’s Water Emergency” presents:

  • Ground realities based on field surveys
  • Scientific and environmental assessments
  • Impact on public health and ecosystems
  • Institutional and administrative gaps
  • Practical, time-bound solutions for river restoration

  • Continuous discharge of untreated industrial effluents
  • Presence of toxic chemicals, dyes, sludge & heavy metals
  • Severe degradation of Buddha Darya ecosystem
  • Direct contamination of River Satluj
  • Long-term impact on drinking water and agriculture

The White Paper was submitted to leading national and state authorities including:

The matter is currently pending before the National Green Tribunal, with prolonged delays despite ongoing environmental damage and public suffering.
