Meeting Points: Mattewara Jungles

The meeting regarding the Celebrations of Vanmahotsav and the Fourth Anniversary of Saving Mattewara Jungles was held as scheduled on Sunday, 24 May 2026 at the Farm House of S. Maninderjit Singh Benepal Ji. The meeting witnessed enthusiastic participation and constructive deliberations by members and representatives of various environmental and social organizations committed to the noble cause of ecological conservation and restoration.

During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on planning, coordination, implementation, and participation aspects relating to the celebrations scheduled from 01 July to 06 July 2026. The discussions reflected a strong collective resolve to further strengthen the environmental movement initiated for the protection and regeneration of Mattewara Jungles, River Satluj, and surrounding ecosystems.

After extensive deliberations, it was unanimously decided to undertake plantation drives at the following three locations:

Plot Number 18 – opposite the old plantation site, where plantation activities will be carried out from 01 July to 06 July 2026, with the Main Function scheduled on 05 July 2026.
The event shall also include:

  1. Health Check-up Camp
  2. Visits and participation by School and College Students
  3. Awareness and motivational activities related to environmental conservation
    (Detailed programme shall follow separately.)

New Plantation Site adjoining Hyder Jungle near Village Sekhewal – plantation activities shall commence as soon as the necessary logistical and field arrangements are completed.

Kadiana Kallan Panchayat Land Site – tree plantation activities to be carried out in coordination with RoundGlass.

Special emphasis during the meeting was laid upon the proposed plantation drive at the new location adjoining Hyder Jungle near Village Sekhewal.

Members expressed the need for scientific planning, long-term protection measures, and active community participation to ensure sustainability and survival of the plantation efforts.

The following important operational points emerged during the discussion and were requested to be taken care of by the Ranger Mattewara authorities:

  • Plantation of a large number of trees
  • Availability and management of water resources
  • Protection and survival of plants after plantation
  • Ensuring safety during plantation activities
  • Allocation of plantation areas to participating NGOs
  • Provision of sufficient MNREGA labour during plantation drives
  • Digging of pits at Plot No. 18 in advance
  • Preparation and circulation of the list of plants required for plantation as shared by Guard Md Mustafa Ji

The meeting reflected a remarkable spirit of cooperation, dedication, and environmental responsibility. Every planted sapling will symbolize hope, responsibility, and commitment towards a greener and healthier Punjab.

PAC appeals to students, youth, educational institutions, NGOs, environmentalists, social organizations, industries, and citizens from all walks of life to come forward wholeheartedly and participate in this noble cause. Together, through collective action and environmental stewardship, we can create a stronger green cover and ensure ecological security for future generations.
