As part of the ongoing Van Mahotsav 2026 celebrations, a major Tree Plantation Drive was organized on 04 July 2026 at Plot No. 19, Mattewara Jungles / Kadiana Kalan Panchayat Land on the Chaunta–Mattewara Road. The initiative aimed to enhance the green cover of the Mattewara landscape, restore the natural ecosystem, and promote environmental conservation through community participation.

The plantation drive witnessed overwhelming enthusiasm from students, teachers, volunteers, environmentalists, and local residents who came together with a shared commitment to protect and enrich the precious Mattewara forests. The event was marked by the active participation of leading educational institutions, including Delhi Public School (DPS), Ramgarhia School of Girls, Excellent Public School, Meonwal, and Nankana Sahib Public School. Students and faculty members enthusiastically planted a large number of native tree saplings and pledged to care for them in the years ahead.

The plantation focused on indigenous species suitable for the floodplains of the River Satluj, ensuring better survival, improved biodiversity, and long-term ecological sustainability. Participants were also sensitized to the importance of native forests in maintaining ecological balance, conserving wildlife habitats, improving air quality, preventing soil erosion, and recharging groundwater.

The programme served as an educational platform where young students learned about climate change, biodiversity conservation, and the significance of preserving Punjab’s natural heritage. Teachers and environmental volunteers encouraged every participant to become an ambassador for environmental protection by adopting sustainable practices and taking responsibility for nurturing the planted saplings.

The Day 4 plantation drive reflected the spirit of collective action, demonstrating how schools, community organizations, and citizens can work together to create a greener and healthier future. The event further strengthened the ongoing mission to conserve the Mattewara Jungles, protect the biodiversity of the Satluj floodplains, and inspire future generations to actively participate in environmental conservation.

The successful plantation drive concluded with a collective pledge by all participants to continue supporting afforestation initiatives and safeguard Punjab’s forests, water resources, and biodiversity for generations to come.
