Our Freedom Struggle Continues — This Time, for a Cleaner and Healthier India

Today, as we celebrate the 80th Independence Day, let us ask ourselves a simple but profound question:

Are we truly free?

• We won freedom from colonial rule, but we are still struggling for freedom from pollution.
• Our rivers and drains are polluted.
• Our air is polluted.
• Our soil and groundwater are contaminated.
• Our cities are choked with garbage and waste.

And, perhaps most dangerously, our mindset is polluted by indifference, irresponsible behaviour, corruption and the habit of looking the other way.

Political freedom gave us the right to live as a free nation.

Environmental freedom is our responsibility to ensure that we can live healthy and with dignity.

The struggle for Freedom from Pollution cannot be won by Governments alone. It requires community participation, responsible citizens, honest administration, scientific solutions and collective action.

Let every citizen become a guardian of our air, water, soil, forests and public spaces.

Let us refuse to accept polluted rivers, overflowing garbage, poisoned groundwater and unhealthy air as the new normal.

Let us change our mindset:

• From complaint to action.
• From apathy to responsibility.
• From pollution to restoration.
• From individual interest to community interest.

On this Independence Day, let us take a new pledge:

“We will not only celebrate Freedom — we will work to make our communities FREE FROM POLLUTION.”

• The struggle continues.
• The change must begin with us.
• The future depends on what we do today.
