World Environment Day 2026

From Awareness to Action — A Collective Mission for a Clean, Green and Sustainable Punjab

“The Earth does not belong to us; we belong to the Earth. What we save today will sustain generations tomorrow.”

World Environment Day is not merely a day of celebration; it is a day of reflection, responsibility, and renewed commitment towards protecting the natural resources that sustain life. It is a collective call for action to every stakeholder—industrialists, farmers, dairy owners, hoteliers, hospitals, laboratories, educational institutions, law-enforcing agencies, administrative authorities, judiciary, political leadership, civil society organizations, and every citizen.

The challenges before us are visible and alarming.

Environmental degradation, pollution, depletion of natural resources, biodiversity loss, and climate-related uncertainties are affecting our health, economy, agriculture, and future generations. The need of the hour is not only awareness but immediate, collective, corrective, and sustained action.

Priority Areas Requiring Immediate Attention

Water Security and Conservation

  • Addressing growing water scarcity through sustainable management.
  • Conservation of every drop of water at household, community, industrial, and agricultural levels.
  • Recharging depleted aquifers through scientific groundwater recharge systems.
  • Large-scale rainwater and floodwater harvesting initiatives.
  • Promotion of treated wastewater reuse for agriculture, horticulture, and industrial purposes.
  • Pollution-Free Water Bodies
  • Elimination of untreated industrial and domestic wastewater discharge.
  • Prevention of contamination of both surface and groundwater resources.
  • Revival and restoration of rivers, drains, choes, wetlands, lakes, ponds, and traditional water bodies.
  • Regular monitoring and maintenance of water quality.
  • Removal of encroachments from floodplains and natural drainage systems.

Sustainable Waste Management

  • Segregation of waste at source.
  • Scientific collection, treatment, recycling, and disposal systems

Promotion of Circular Economy principles through reuse and resource recovery.

Effective management of dairy waste through biogas generation, composting, and resource utilization.

Reduction of plastic waste and single-use products.

Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Ecology

  • Reduction in excessive use of pesticides, insecticides, and chemical fertilizers.
  • Promotion of natural and regenerative farming practices.
  • Soil health restoration and conservation.
  • Sustainable management of crop residues.

Forests, Biodiversity and Green Cover

  • Protection and expansion of forests and green belts.
  • Restoration of degraded ecosystems.
  • Plantation and nurturing of native species.
  • Conservation of wildlife habitats and biodiversity corridors.
  • Community-driven afforestation and ecological restoration initiatives.

Air Quality and Clean Energy

  • Reduction of industrial and vehicular emissions.
  • Adoption of renewable and green energy solutions.
  • Promotion of energy efficiency and conservation.
  • Gradual reduction in dependence on fossil fuels.

Common Social Responsibility (CSR) — A Duty for Every Citizen

Environmental protection cannot be left solely to governments and institutions. Every citizen has a Common Social Responsibility to protect, conserve, and restore natural resources.

  • True environmental stewardship begins with:
  • Responsible use of water and energy.
  • Maintaining cleanliness in public and private spaces.
  • Avoiding littering and pollution.
  • Respecting environmental laws and regulations.
  • Participating in plantation drives and conservation campaigns.
  • Promoting environmental awareness among children and youth.
  • A healthy society is built upon civic sense, environmental ethics, and collective responsibility.

Our Fundamental Duties towards nature deserve equal importance in our daily lives, ensuring a clean, green, and healthy environment for present and future generations.

PAC’s Collective Call for Zero Tolerance to Pollution

The Public Action Committee (PAC) Mattewara Jungles, River Satluj, and Buddha Darya appeals to all stakeholders to join hands in building a pollution-free and environmentally secure Punjab.

“When millions of hands plant a tree, save a drop of water, prevent pollution, and protect nature, the future changes forever. The best legacy we can leave for our children is a cleaner Earth, greener forests, flowing rivers, and a healthier environment.”
