BDP–1: “Know Your River”

Foundation & Scientific Mapping Phase

Objective:

To understand the real condition of Buddha Darya through systematic field study and documentation.

Key Activities:

• Full-length padyatra across major stretches of the river
• Identification and mapping of 45+ pollution discharge points
• Detection of chemical hotspots and toxic inflows
• Interaction with local communities, farmers, and residents
• Initial photographic and field documentation of pollution

Findings:

• Presence of untreated industrial effluents and sewage
• Stormwater drains misused for chemical discharge
• Visible black water, foul smell, and ecological degradation

Impact

• Created the first ground-level scientific baseline
• Initiated public awareness about the severity of pollution
• Laid the foundation for future advocacy and action
